During our week here, every person we encountered was Greek. The kafeneia filled slowly in the evenings. The ceramics shops opened when they opened. Nobody was performing their holiday. Only a few kilometres across the water from Milos, and several degrees quieter in every sense. Espera opened in summer 2025, and it has fast become the only address on Kimolos that matters. Eighteen sea-facing suites and private pool villas in Kalamitsi, designed with the kind of quiet confidence you find in places that don't need to compete for attention. The Suites

Whether you are on a private terrace with a morning coffee or in the water of your own pool watching the light change across the horizon, the relationship between where you are and the water is constant. POOLSIDE
The shared pool at Espera is bound to become the centre of your day. There is something so complete about spending a day by the pool surrounded by warm stone and sea in the distance. The pool is the plan. The pool bar keeps things simple: cold drinks, something small to eat, the view doing the rest of the work. It is a particular quality that only unhurried places manage.
KALAMITSI & BEYOND
Espera sits in Kalamitsi, a bay on the southwestern edge of the island. The village is small, the pace is slow, and the beach is close enough to reach without any effort. Kalamitsi beach is clear water, fine sand, and sheltered by surrounding cliffs.
Further along the coast, Prassa is worth the short drive. The sea there is warmed by thermal springs from below the seabed. The temperature has a particular quality, soft and mineral.
Alyki, on the northern side, offers a quieter stretch for an afternoon when you want fewer people and more stillness. Kimolos has beaches for every tempo, and Espera's position in Kalamitsi puts you within reach of all of them without putting you at the centre of anywhere busy.

AMONI RESTAURANT
Amoni opens from 8am to the blue expanse of the sea — a view that makes an early start for breakfast on holiday, feel less like discipline and more like reward. The buffet covers freshly baked bread, traditional pies, local cheeses and cold cuts, and dishes you’ll want to try recreate at home but sadly can’t because they use everything that’s sourced locally.
In the evenings, Amoni becomes something else entirely. Chef Dimitris Dimitriadis leads the kitchen with a focus on organic, locally sourced ingredients and a deep respect for the island's culinary heritage. Flavours passed down through generations on an island where produce is hard-won and genuinely valued. The menu is a quiet love letter to Greek cooking: the mineral quality of the seafood, the sweetness of local vegetables grown in volcanic soil, the honest simplicity of dishes that need nothing added.
Kimolos does not ask for your attention. It does not need to. It simply exists — quietly, on its own terms. If where to stay in Kimolos is the question, Espera is the answer.
WHAT TO PACK
Kimolos has its own dress code, and it is considerably simpler than most. This is not an island of beach clubs and aperitivo hours — it is cobblestones, thermal springs, long dinners at Amoni, and evenings in Chorio when the streets finally fill and the light turns amber.
