CHARLY STURM SHARES HER VACATION BEAUTY ESSENTIALS

We chat to Charly Sturm; Sommer Swim girl and daughter of Dr Barbara Sturm a leading Hollywood complexion extraordinaire with a client list inclusive of; Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Hailey Baldwin, and Kim Kardashian (to namedrop a few).

SS: Tell us about yourself & your involvement in the family business.
CS: I currently live in Los Angeles and work for my mom’s skincare line, Dr. Barbara Sturm Molecular Cosmetics. I grew up watching my mom build this business and grew into it very organically; it has always been very close to my heart. I am involved in several different areas within the company. From marketing to social media, content creation, brand partnerships, and product development. Another passion project of mine is acting, which I have been wanting to do since I was twelve years old. Living in LA I am luckily able to pursue both things at the same time.

SS: What does your morning beauty routine look like?
CS: This is usually dependant on how much time I have before I need to leave the house. But I always make sure to wash my face with the Dr. Barbara Sturm Foam Cleanser and I use the Enzyme Cleanser twice a week to gently exfoliate. Then I use the Balancing Toner and I religiously apply the Anti-Pollution Drops to protect my skin against blue light exposure from our phones and computers. Lastly I use the Good C Vitamin C Serum, my Face Cream and the Sun Drops (very important, especially in LA).

SS: What is it like working alongside your mum, what does a typical day in the office look like for you?
CS: Working with family can be a little tricky but in all honesty, I love working with my mom. From the start, she has always involved me in many different areas of the business and she truly values my opinion. I’ve gained so much experience and knowledge from working alongside her and by watching her incredible dedication and work ethic, which I am very grateful for. She is my number one inspiration. We currently do not have an office in LA and due to Covid are working from home, but when my mom is in town we usually all work together at her house. I also try to frequently visit our newly opened LA Boutique and Spa.

SS: Best piece of health & beauty advice you've received?
CS: That balance is key and that we are all individual. What works for one person may not be the best for another. In terms of beauty my biggest lesson was to keep it as natural as possible. I like using make up but always prefer when it is minimal.

SS: Favourite beauty-related pick me up?
CS: The Dr. Barbara Sturm Hydrating Face Mist. It’s the perfect product for travelling or to carry in your bag and reapply throughout the day.

SS: Any secrets to achieving a sun-kissed glow (sans-sun)?
CS: I personally don’t use self-tanners but I do go in the sun from time to time or when I get the chance; not without applying my Sun Drops of course! The Sun Drops give you a beautiful, natural glow and keep your skin protected throughout the day. I never get sunburnt after having applied them.

SS: The beauty products you can't vacation without?
CS: So many! All products that I have mentioned above for my skincare routine, plus my Hydrating Face Mask, Lip Balm, and Spot Treatment. The Mask is an absolute must, especially after a flight. I also always have a few make up essentials with me, such as a light foundation, a good eyeshadow, a bronzer and lipstick; my go-to make-up brands are Westman Atelier, Charlotte Tilbury and Anastasia Beverly Hills for brows, a must!
